What’s checked. What’s still open.

37 main candidates + 6 conditional possibilities.

36 main candidates meet the 10 a.m. cutoff. The early-start toggle adds Artificial Intelligence and Speech Governance, Tuesday 8–10 a.m.

Your 1L elective requirement

The 2026–27 Handbook, section I(C), page 14 requires a spring upper-level elective of 2–4 HLS classroom credits. Clinic participation and cross-registration are not permitted during 1L. Two credits alone therefore do not establish eligibility.

How this list was screened

All 265 listings in the Spring 2027 catalog were inspected. Full descriptions were read for 66 two-credit offerings whose listed meeting times avoid your required courses, including the early option. Of those, 19 require clinic enrollment and four have other published barriers; six are conditional and 37 remain main candidates.

The separate variable-credit entries that allow two credits are clinics and are excluded under the 1L rule. This list covers spring offerings, not full-year courses already underway.

Your required meetings

Constitutional Law 7: Tue/Wed 10:15 a.m.–12:15 p.m.
Property 7: Thu/Fri 10:15 a.m.–12:15 p.m.
Criminal Law 7: Mon/Wed 3:45–5:45 p.m.
Legal Research and Writing 7A: Thu 3:45–5:45 p.m.

Open questions

Is each candidate allocated seats in the Spring 2027 Section 7 registration round? A current public section list was not verified. The search service retained last year’s guidance, but its live page returned “not found.” No sign-in, live seat availability check, or registration was performed.

The calendar checks published class meetings, not examination dates or unscheduled events. Policing in America describes visits whose times are not listed. Foundations of International Arbitration has six-week dates still to be determined. Teaching Copyright has conflicting meeting information and stays conditional.

Other published restrictions

Advanced Issues in Administrative Law and Theory specifies upper-level JDs. Estate Planning requires Trusts and Estates. International Arbitration: Investment requires the Fall 2026 Commercial course. Terrorism and International Law requires Public International Law. These four are outside the main and conditional lists.
